Uniforms and your Income Tax return
What we're talking about here are the strictly enforced Corporate Uniforms. The are distinctive and they are compulsory.
These uniforms MUST be registered by your employer with AusIndustry and have characteristics such as colour, style and type that are strictly enforced. Classic example would be the Air Hostess uniform.
The extent of the uniform would be outlined by your employer and could include tax deductions for shoes, socks, stockings as well as the uniform itself.
The money you spend to buy your uniform and it's components would be tax deductible. That would also extend to repair, cleaning and replacements.
Note that if your employer provides your uniform free of change and there is no money changing hands, then there is no Tax Deduction.
Laundry is generally limited to $150 per year based on a cost of $1 per load or 50 cents per load when washing with private clothes. if you use these rates you are not bound by any record keeping requirements.
